This book is concerned with the theory and application of fractal geometry in digital imaging. It is divided into four parts:
. Part 1 deals with the general theory of fractal
geometry and focuses attention on the theory of
random scaling fractals.
. Part II covers a fundamental inverse problem,
that of using fractals to segment images.
. Part III looks at the design of algorithms that
can be used to create or synthesize images -
painting with fractals.
. Part IV considers the inverse of the processes
discussed in part III and introduces the reader
to the role that fractal geometry plays in
image compression.
Throughout the book, a series of new approaches to
defining fractals are illustrated, such as the analysis of the fractal power spectrum and the use of fractional differentials. Several new algorithms and applications are also discussed and applied to real life images.

About the Author

Patrick Andrews is a Senior Research Fellow and Martin Turner is a Research Fellow of the Faculty of Computer Sciences and Engineering, also at De Montfort University.
